Risingware Exp+ is a file browser that can replace Windows Explorer. It is a system that gathers the essential software we need to handle files —a file explorer with a number of handy utilities—, plus a web browser. All this within an intuitive and flexible environment that can be configured to suit everyone’s needs.
When we first launch the program, we may get a bit overwhelmed by the amount of buttons and options found. So it is advisable to take a look at the Help file so as to start getting familiar with the program and take the most of it.
The main window consists of two user-sizeable panels that use tabs to open either web sites or directories. The interface displays a different toolbar, menu, and set of buttons depending on the active tab content. That is, if we are exploring our PC and folders, the toolbar, menu, and buttons will show the tasks related to file managing. On the contrary, when surfing the web, the toolbar and menu will switch to the typical web browsers’ options. The always-visible Fast Start Bar offers direct and quick access to Windows utilities such as the registry editor, the task manager, the command window, or add/remove programs. From the Setup Center we can determine the initial page for each of the panels -which can be a folder or disc, or a web page-, configure the toolbars, and other general settings. Most of the functions can be called from the toolbar, using the context menu, or via hotkeys. more
The web browser, for one thing, is based on the IE engine, and although it’s fair to say it does not match Firefox in speed and features, it is solid enough to stand up to a good Internet session, and it’s certainly faster than IE. Among its numerous features, there is a bookmark manager, an “HTML Component Downloader”, the chance to use several search engines simultaneously, and a plugin manager.
The File Explorer on the other hand, offers the typical functions of such programs plus other interesting advanced features. For example, we can view the content of our folders in several ways (details, thumbnails, icons, etc.), and copy and move files alternatively by right-clicking the selected files and choosing “Move to the opposite panel”, or dragging and dropping files between the panels. But among its most interesting features there is the ‘Advanced File Search’, with which we can search for a specified file on several directories at the same time, defining search options and criteria, a File Compression tool, a file splitter and merger, and a Consecutive File Renaming tool. There is also a function called ‘Fast Preview’ that shows the content of a selected file on the opposite panel. With it we can preview MS Office documents, images in virtually all formats, plus HTML, TXT, and even PDF files.
The Basic Toolbox is a set of utilities where we find, just to mention a few, the Web Cache Downloader allowing us to save to our disc the content from the Internet cache, be it HTML files, images, or YouTube videos, the Windows Shutdown Tool, and the Fast Start Genie, which can run any Windows application.
There is a PRO version of the program, that offers additionally an Advanced Toolbox with a backup tool, a directory synchronizer, and more.
